DETAILS

Report on New Asia College was a half-yearly publication edited by New Asia College’s students. Nine issues were published between 1952 and 1957, witnessing the College’s progress during the Kweilin Street and early Farm Road eras. Each issue opens with portrait and short essay by President Ch’ien Mu, followed by various articles by teachers and students, from academic papers, literary works to sketches of College life.

One may wonder where the money for publishing Report on New Asia College, not for sale but with rich contents, came from during the College’s early years. The publication was made possible, thanks to donations by President Ch’ien and other teachers from their meagre salaries, and those from alumni and students who took up part-time work after schools, a sign of solidarity among early New Asianites. The circulation of Report on New Asia College, is believed to extend to prospective students, with course list, teacher resumes and prospectus occasionally appearing in the pages.

With a surge in the number of teachers and students following New Asia College’s relocation to Farm Road, the College launched another publication New Asia Life Fortnightly in 1958, reporting College activities and making announcements. Report on New Asia College was converted into an academic journal, publishing research outcomes from the College, and renamed New Asia College Academic Annual in the same year, at the suggestion of Mr. Mou Jun-sun.
