College General Education

All New Asia students are required to take 6 units of College GE courses:

  • 4 credits: compulsory courses (for Year One students)
  • 2 credits: elective courses (for Year Two or above)

    This course is jointly offered by Chung Chi, New Asia and United Colleges to their first-year students, and taught in English. It introduces the basic elements of university education, campus life, personal development and social responsibility.

    This course aims to broaden the horizon of first year students. Students taking this course will be able to acquire a basic understanding of Chinese culture, Hong Kong society, university life, and their personal development.

Student-oriented Teaching and Seminar

  • Term 2
  • Introduction
    The overall objective of this course is to help students acquire an understanding of university education, the role of university students in the society and adjustment to university life. It adopts a small group in which students are expected to explore topics related to university education (e.g. role of university students) and the society (e.g. current social issues), with the aims of promoting their data analysis, seminar presentation and report writing skills.

    This course will introduce students to some of the themes and characteristics of western culture, such as religion, philosophy, politics and society.

  • Introduction
    This course begins with a brief but comprehensive exploration of American history, and then quickly moves on to the most important events and issues of the last 100 years of American history and culture. Historical events and persons will also be covered.
