The College organised a trip for participants of the 11th New Asia Young Scholars Scheme to visit Kyoto and Nara, Japan for cultural exploration, exchanges and topical research, between 20 and 25 June 2024. Through the fruitful trip and exchanges, participants compared various cultural aspects of China and Japan, and gained a deeper understanding of the history and culture of China and Japan.

The trip was led by Professor Sidney Cheung of the CUHK Department of Anthropology. Other participants included College Head Professor Sun-On Chan, Dean of Students Professor Kenneth Cheung, donors of the Scheme Mr. Lam Chi-chiu Roland and Ms. Michell Wong, as well as a number of College Trustees. Through visiting the Horyu-ji Temple, Todai-ji Temple, Byodoin, Kinkaku-ji Temple, Ginkaku-ji and Nijo Castle, participants could widen their perspective of history and enhance their cultural literacy.
