The College’s new student hostel, “Mei Yun Tang”, has been in full operationsince last year. An opening ceremony was held on 24 November 2023, with the gracious presence of Professor Rocky S. Tuan, Vice-Chancellor of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), College trustees, and close to 100 donors and guests.

The student hostel’s construction took more than ten years to complete and encountered various challenges such as fundraising and the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. With generous donations from “Mei Yun Tang”, the project was completed in April 2023 and officially put into service this academic year. As a token of gratitude, the hostel was named “Mei Yun Tang”.

“This opening ceremony holds significant meaning and marks an important milestone in New Asia College’s history,” said Professor Tuan in his opening address, expressing the University’s appreciation for the support of all the donors. He emphasised that the completion of the hostel represents not only a physical building but also provides students with a favourable environment for their academic advancement and personal growth.

Professor Kao Mayching, representing “Mei Yun Tang”, expressed the support of “Mei Yun Tang” for this meaningful project during her speech at the ceremony. She highlighted the alignment between New Asia College’s dedication to promoting Chinese culture and the philosophy of “Mei Yun Tang”. She encouraged New Asia students to cherish the hostel, step out of their rooms, and engage in communication with others within this residential community.

“Mei Yun Tang” is the fifth student hostel of the College. It consists of three blocks which provide 300 residential places for our students and features a multipurpose hall for the usage of College members. It was the winner of the “HKIA Award 2022/23 – Residential Building” among the Annual Awards of the Hong Kong Institute of Architects (HKIA) and was the first student hostel within the CUHK campus to receive this prestigious award.
