New Asia Mentorship Programme 2021/22 Career Talks Day

[February 2022 issue]

The Career Talks Day of the New Asia College Mentorship Programme 2021/22 was successfully held on 15 January. This year, the event was also open to alumni who graduated in recent 5 years. Affected by the COVID-19, the event was held online. Despite the change of format to online, more than 140 students and alumni participated in the event.

For the keynote speech this year, the College and the Alumni Association of New Asia College hoped to provide more practical information to students. The topic was actually set according to the most interested topic elected by mentees. This year, we can resume normal teaching and see each other in person after more than a year of online classes. However, this is again a change for us, who have already got used to the "new normal" life. Academic and social activities relatively increased. These changes in our daily routines, studies and time management have become new challenges. At the same time, final year students and graduates may also face difficulties in job hunting. We are pleased to have invited our alumna, Miss Zanonia Chiu - Registered Clinical Psychologist to share with participants on the topic “Adjusting to Resuming “Normal” - How Do University Students and New Graduates Face the Challenges and Stress in Learning and Job-seeking in the Midst of the COVID-19?”. Miss Chiu holds a number of professional qualifications in psychology, specializing in emotion and stress management. The talk aimed at providing suggestions on relieving stress faced by students upon getting back to normal.

Before the talk, there were seven sharing sessions. We have invited our alumni to share about the career path in a few industries. The sharing sessions catered for the different needs of students and also broaden their horizons. Speakers were Mr. Ngan Wai-hang, Mr. Lo Yuk-kwong, Ms. Claudia Tsang, Mr. Simon Pun, Ms. Pinky Chan, Mr. Siu Tat-man and Mr. Kendy Lee. They shared their experience in the banking industry, education, internship, career opportunities in the Mainland, career planning, mobile app start-up and social enterprise respectively.

The event could not be successful without the tremendous support from our mentors, mentees and alumni. The College would like to convey its sincere gratitude to the speakers. We hope to organize more such activities for our students in the future.
