New Asia College Mentorship Programme 2023/24 Career Development Day cum Lunar New Year Poon Choi Party

Career Development Day workshops

Lunar New Year Pun Choi Dinner

[February 2024 issue]

The Career Development Day of the New Asia College Mentorship Programme 2023/24 was successfully held on 20 January 2024. In addition to the programme mentees, all College students were invited to attend. Thanks to the enthusiastic support of the mentees and students, the number of participants reached over 110.

To better cater for the needs of the participants, this year’s “Career Talks Day” was renamed as “Career Development Day”. Three additional workshops were organised, one of which was conducted by our alumnus Mr. Wong Hoi-ching Jonathan (97/Economics). Through these workshops, we aimed to provide students with easier access to improving workplace social etiquette and communication skills.

We were honoured to invite alumni from various industries to share their experiences. In view of the increasing awareness on mental well-being in recent years, we especially included sessions on “Enhancing Resilience” and “Mindful Leadership”. The speakers for these sessions included Mr. Ngan Wai-hang (05/Economics), Dr. Siu Yat-fan (11/Psychology), Dr. Alfred Ma (02/Mathematics), Dr. Lau Ngar-sze (96/Sociology), Ms. Jennifer Lee (06/Journalism and Communication) and Ms. Pinky Chan (92/IBBA). They shared with students their work experience and pre-employment preparation in different industries, covering areas such as banking, mental health, financial technology, mindfulness practices, corporate communications and career planning. Students responded enthusiastically to these sharing sessions and actively interacted with the speakers.

In the evening, the Lunar New Year Pun Choi Dinner was held at Yun Chi Hsien, bringing the mentors and mentees together to exchange views and celebrate the Chinese New Year. Before the dinner, Associate College Head Professor Tom Wan and Chairperson of the New Asia College Alumni Association Ms. Anny Wong delivered speeches and gave a warm welcome to the mentors and mentees. They expressed gratitude to the mentors for their staunch support towards the mentorship programme and encouraged the mentees to learn from the mentors. The atmosphere was joyful, and the mentors and mentees engaged in lively conversations.

The success of this event was made possible with the tremendous support from all parties involved. We sincerely thank all the speakers, mentors, mentees, and College students for their enthusiastic participation and support. We also hope that the New Asia spirit will continue to be passed down for generations.
