Lunar New Year “Poon Choi” Party

[February 2023 issue]

The Career Talks Day of the College Mentorship Programme 2022/23 was successfully held on 14 January at Lee Shau Kee Building, CUHK, attended by over 110 mentees and students.

The theme of this year’s talk was “Tips on Surviving in Workplace and Business Etiquette”, aiming to provide practical guidance for our mentees and students. Due to lack of work experience, as novice workers, fresh graduates are prone to make rookie mistakes in workplace and business communication. The College and the Alumni Association of New Asia College (NACAA) were honoured to have invited Ms. Sadia Liu (88/Sociology), an experienced Human Resources Director and a professional trainer as the keynote speaker. Ms. Liu received her Bachelor of Social Sciences from CUHK and an MBA from Long Island University, New York, and has provided consultancy services to a wide spectrum of industries. She shared with students useful tips on business etiquette, with the hope of helping them understand the dos and don’ts in the business context in order to “survive” in the workplace.

The talk was followed by six sharing sessions, during which our alumni, including Mr. Ngan Wai-hang (05/Economics), Mr. Tsang Hing-weng Eric (12/Journalism and Communication), Dr. Ma Ka-chun Alfred (02/Mathematics), Dr. Lau Ngar-sze (96/Sociology), Ms. Tsang Lai-wa Claudia (12/Fine Arts) and Ms. Lam Mei-wai (97/Government and Public Administration), were there to share with students the entry requirements and career information of various disciplines, topics including banking, movie, fintech, mindfulness, internship, career planning, etc.

After the talk, a Lunar New Year “Poon Choi” Party was held at Yun Chi Hsien for mentors and mentees to interact with each other. Before the dinner, College Head Prof. Hector Sun-On Chan and Chairperson of NACAA Ms. Anny Wong welcomed all participants and expressed their gratitude to our mentors for their support to the programme. They also encouraged alumni who have graduated for five years or more to join the programme in the coming year to nurture the new generation of New Asians.

All participants enjoyed a wonderful and memorable evening together. Some mentors even suggested organizing outdoor activities in the near future. The event could not be successful without the tremendous support of our speakers, mentors, mentees and students.
