The 40th Anniversary Reunion for Class 1983 took place on 25 November 2023, with over 80 alumni attending the event. Activities such as campus tours were also conducted in the afternoon.

At 3pm, more than ten alumni arrived at CUHK to participate in the campus tour. They first took a tour of the University by shuttle bus, with student helpers introducing the new developments on campus. Some alumni who had participated in the 30th Anniversary Reunion a decade ago noticed significant changes in the University over the years. In addition to new colleges, many new buildings and facilities were constructed. Following the campus tour at CUHK, the alumni proceeded to the College campus, where they visited the newly completed fifth student hostel, “Mei Yun Tang”.

In the evening, over 80 alumni and their family members gathered at Yun Chi Hsien. Everyone was joyful and engaged in lively conversations about past anecdotes. In keeping with the tradition of reunion activities, some alumni suggested the College invite former teachers to the reunion. We were honoured to have invited Professor Tong Duen-ching from the Department of Philosophy and Professor Chou Win-lin from the Department of Economics to attend the event, witnessing the precious teacher-student bond.

The event began with the singing of the College Anthem, followed by a welcoming speech by College Head Professor Sun-On Chan. The representative of the College Alumni Association, Mr. Wan Shiu-kee, also attended to show his support. Professor Chan expressed his nostalgia for the swift passage of ten years since the “30th Anniversary Reunion for Class 1983”. Before the start of the dinner, two alumni, Mr. Chow Wing-kit Dennis (83/Economics) and Ms. Chan Kit-ching Juni (83/Journalism and Communication), performed harmonica and Latin dance respectively. During the dinner, alumni shared their memories of the past, and the representative of the graduating class, Mr. Kwan Chi-fai from the Department of Philosophy, gave a concluding speech, recounting the inspiring words of Professor Tong Duen-ching and Professor Sun Kuo-tung in the past.

This event would not have been successful without the great support from the Class Coordinators. The College sincerely thanks them and hopes that the 1983 graduates will continue to support College activities and care about the development of their alma mater.
