Co-organised by the New Asia College and the Beijing Oriental Morality Institute since 2002, the Seminar on Chinese Moral Education has been promoting Chinese traditional virtues and moral education to the younger generations. Every summer, a group of primary and secondary school principals, teachers and education officials from various regions of the Mainland attend a series of seminars, discussion forums, visits and exchanges with local school principals and teachers during the eight-day themed programme in Hong Kong. The Primary School Group and the Secondary School Group, with a total of over 60 participants, are generously sponsored by the Tin Ka Ping Foundation and Mr. Chan Chi-sun Chinese Culture Fund respectively.

The 18th Seminar on Chinese Moral Education, themed “Courage” (勇), was successfully held from 4 to 11 July 2023 and was attended by over 60 participants from primary and secondary schools, or education research units of various Mainland regions including Beijing, Heilongjiang, Chongqing, Jiangxi, Hubei, Anhui, Shandong, Inner Mongolia and Guangdong.

During the programme, six talks were delivered by the following speakers: Professor Wang Xinhong and Peng Xiaoyuan of the Beijing Oriental Morality Institute, Professor Leung Yuen-sang of CUHK Department of History, Professor Zheng Zemian of CUHK Department of Philosophy, Professor Tang Siu-fu of HKU School of Chinese and Dr. Yu Kam-por of the HKU.

In addition to lectures, visits to local schools and organisations, including the Tin Ka Ping Foundation, New Asia Middle School, Po Leung Kuk Stanley Ho Sau Nan Primary School, Police Museum and Jao Tsung-I Academy, were also arranged which enabled participants to gain a deeper understanding of the moral education implementation in Hong Kong and shared experiences with local counterparts. Teachers from local schools were invited to attend sharing sessions on 8 July to talk about their school’s moral education initiatives which the Mainland participants found deeply inspiring.
