The “Ch'ien Mu Lecture in History and Culture” is organized to enhance academic and cultural exchanges. Invited speakers in the past years are all distinguished scholars in different fields of Chinese culture. Since 2013, the lecture series has been endowed by the "Mr. Chan Chi-sun Chinese Culture Fund".

This year, the College was honoured to have invited Prof. Leung Yuen Sang who is currently Research Professor of History at CUHK as the speaker. Prof. Leung has taught at the National University of Singapore, the California State University and CUHK.

The lecture series under the 33rd Ch'ien Mu Lecture in History and Culture was scheduled for mid-March. Due to the pandemic situation in March, all the three lectures were held online. Teachers and students of related disciplines from local and non-local institutions have attended the online lectures. The three talks received enthusiastic response and facilitated fruitful discussions between the speaker and the audiences.

The lecture series foused on the modern fate of Confucianism beyond China, including the Confucian revival movements in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia and the emergence of "Boston Confucianism" in Europe and America. The topics of the three lectures are: “The Confucian Revival Movement in Hong Kong and Singapore in the Early 20th Century” (12 March); “Beyond China: The Impact of Confucian Culture in the Modern World” (18 March) and “Islands and Continents: The Political and Cultural Orientations of Chinese Intellectuals in Hong Kong and Singapore in the Early 20^th Century” (21 March).
