Seven CUHK research teams received funding support from the inaugural Research, Academic and Industry Sectors One-plus (RAISe+) Scheme announced by the Innovation and Technology Commission of the Hong Kong Government. Among them is NA-affiliated Professor Lam Hon-Ming (85/Biology), Choh-Ming Li Professor of Life Sciences and Director of State Key Laboratory of Agrobiotechnology (CUHK), whose project is titled “Seeding the Future: Integrating Biotechnology, Space Technology and AIoT to Soybean Cultivation for Food Security and Environmental Solutions”.

The RAISe+ Scheme, launched in October last year, aims to help local universities transform and commercialise their research and development outcomes, and to facilitate collaboration between the Government and sectors within academia and industries. The scheme provides funds, on a matching basis, to university research teams that have the potential to become successful start-ups, and will give a maximum of HK$100 million to each approved project.

In addition, Professor Lam received the “Leader of the Year 2023” award (Education / Professions / Technology & Innovation) from the Sing Tao News Corporation Limited in recognition of his outstanding contributions towards Hong Kong’s success and prosperity, linking it to Mainland China and the international community at large.
