Jointly organised by New Asia College and the College Alumni Association, and co-organised with New Asia Middle School, the first lecture of the “New Asia College Cultural Talk” was held on 16 November 2024 at New Asia Middle School.

It was our honour to have Professor Chong Tai-leung Terence, Associate Head of the College, Executive Director of Lau Chor Tak Institute of Global Economics and Finance, and Co-Director of the Interdisciplinary Major Programme in Global Economics and Finance, as our speaker. Professor Chong gave a lecture titled “Hong Kong as an International Financial Centre” which was moderated by Mr. Yeung Kai-chiu, Member of the Committee on New Asia College Cultural Talks.

Professor Chong explained how Hong Kong has transformed from a small fishing port into an international financial centre. He shared methods of using objective data to analyse Hong Kong’s financial situation, as well as his insights about Hong Kong’s status as a global financial centre in a clear and accessible way. Professor Chong utilised his expertise in economics and finance, along with the latest figures from various international organisations, to explore the development direction of Hong Kong’s financial industry. During the Q&A session, he answered participants’ questions, deepening their understanding of Hong Kong’s current financial status, and clarifying their thoughts and vision.

Participants could attend the lecture in person or online. The event received enthusiastic support from various parties. The content of the lecture was comprehensive and captivating, and participants were actively engaged by asking questions and interacting with the speaker during the Q&A session.
