Scholars from CUHK won three awards at the Healthy Longevity Catalyst Awards (Hong Kong) 2022, two scholars of which are from the College – Prof. Ren Hongliang from the Department of Electronic Engineering, and Prof. Lui Po-yee from the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology. The Catalyst Awards are a collaboration of the Research Grants Council and the United States’ National Academy of Medicine. Each winning project will receive a US$50,000 (approx. Prof. Ren’s team will develop swallowable, encapsulated, multi-stable intragastric balloons for obesity treatment to offer a non-surgical option for obese patients.
Prof. Lui’s team plans to decipher disease pathogenesis and druggable targets for degenerative tendinopathy using a spatial transcriptomic approach and will open new opportunities to use formalin-fixed and paraffin-embedded (FFPE) samples for spatial transcriptomic research in tendons to improve public health.
