The “New Asia Forward.New Asia Hostel Homecoming Camp 2024” held between 6 and 7 July 2024 was a resounding success, attracting over 100 alumni and their families, spanning graduates from the 1970s to recent years. The event is one of our celebratory events of the College’s 75th Anniversary. We aimed to enable alumni to reminisce their hostel life and share these precious memories with their families.

Highlight of the event was the newly opened “Mei Yun Tang” which was made available to alumni for the first time, allowing them to experience modern student facilities. The event also included visits to the New Asia Water Tower, a family magic class hosted by the renowned local magician Harry Gor Gor, a dumpling-making class at Yun Chi Hsien, guided tours to the CUHK Art Museum, visits to the Jockey Club Museum of Climate Change, and an eco-tour to the Lake Ad Excellentiam (Weiyuan Lake). The alumni could also access the College’s sports facilities during the period.

The climax of the event was the College Head’s Welcome Poon Choi Gala Dinner. Before the dinner, College Head Professor Sun-On Chan mingled with the participants. All alumni enjoyed the delicious Poon Choi in a joyful atmosphere and appreciated the performance by the “New Asia 1973 Band”. The band performed nostalgic golden oldies and modern pop songs. The leader of the “New Asia 1973 Band” was Mr. Bill Lam, Vice Chairperson of the College Board of Trustees. Mr. Charles Leung, Chairperson of the Board was also invited as a special guest. The College expressed special thanks to both Trustees for their generous support of the event. In addition, there was a mask-changing performance by Master Kwong from the New Asia Kung Fu Society and a magic show by Harry Gor Gor. Harry Gor Gor also served as the emcee for the evening, bringing much joy to the participants.

Professor Tom Wan, Associate College Head and Ms. Anny Wong, Chairperson of New Asia Alumni Association also attended the event to welcome the alumni. Together with Mr. Bill Lam, they are the Conveners of the Alumni Activities Task Force of the 75th Anniversary Steering Committee. Professor Chan Man-nin, Warden of “Mei Yun Tang” also attended the event to show his support.

The entire event was a complete success, thanks to the enthusiastic participation of the alumni. The participants expressed that the event not only allowed them to revisit the good old days, but also deepened their affections for their alma mater, and they were very grateful for the College’s thoughtful arrangements. We will continue to organise more similar events, allowing more alumni to return to the campus and share their precious memories.
