Global Student Partnership (GSP) Programme, co-organized by New Asia College and Ewha Womans University, is an academic and cultural conference led by students, with the aim of nurturing global leaders through mutual exchange, research study and deepening the understanding of the society and culture of the two regions.

The programme theme this year is “What next after the COP 26: the implications of the climate crisis and collaborative efforts in Asia”. To mark the beginning of this year’s GSP programme, an opening ceremony with a public lecture was held on 9 July via Zoom. Together with our Dean of Students Prof. Cheung Kam-siu, Dr. Samgmi Cho, Vice President for International Affairs, Ewha Womans University, was invited as a distinguished guest.

The lecture was given by Ms. Yesuel Lee and Dr. George Ma. Ms. Lee is the CEO of a South Korean start-up Climeet and she shared the environmental issues in Asia, their societal impacts, and how Climeet is working in addressing these issues; Dr. Ma is the Head of Climate Action Section, Social Responsibility and Sustainable Development Office, CUHK and he shared the concept of sustainable development and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations, the assessment and status of climate change in Asian countries, and ways to promote sustainability education and climate action through the work of the CUHK Jockey Club Museum of Climate Change.

Prof. Cheung Kam-siu and one of the academic advisors Prof. Wong Wing-tak Jack invited students of the GSP for a luncheon and also conducted a programme review on 29 July. Students gave very positive feedback about the programme and they enjoyed the collaboration with their teammates and also Ewha students on planning and organizing various academic and cultural events for the 2-day online conference.

Upon the completion of the programme, each student was awarded with a certificate issued by the College Head. Students also presented souvenirs to professors as a token of gratitude.
