In celebration of the 75th Anniversary of New Asia College, the College organised the “New Asia Alumni Greater Bay Area Enterprise and Cultural Tour” from 17 to 20 December 2024. 20 alumni and their families visited major enterprises in the Greater Bay Area (BYD, Tencent and Vivo) and various cultural districts. We also visited CUHK (Shenzhen) and interacted with students of our sister college, Harmonia College, fostering friendships and strengthening ties.
On the first day, College Head Professor Sun-On Chan hosted a welcome luncheon for the alumni at Yun Chi Hsien. After lunch, the alumni departed for CUHK (Shenzhen), where Acting College Master Professor Simon Pun warmly received everyone and personally led a tour of Harmonia College. In the evening, Professor Pun hosted a dinner at Harmonia College, during which New Asia alumni exchanged ideas and strengthened their bonds with Harmonia College teachers and students.
In the following days, the participants visited three leading technology companies, BYD, Tencent and Vivo, gaining insights into their innovation and efficiency. Each company showcased its unique strengths: BYD’s advancements in electric vehicles and battery technology have made it a significant player on the international stage; Tencent’s technology has enhanced the quality of life and work efficiency for the public; Vivo’s production of smartphones, from components to finished products, is all done on the same local production line. These visits were eye-opening for all participants. Harmonia College students also joined our tour, and shared ideas and insights with us during meals.
Additionally, we visited several museums, including Nanshan Museum, Guangzhou New Cultural Museum, and Bai’etan Greater Bay Area Cultural Centre, as well as Chen Clan Ancestral Hall and Canton Tower, experiencing the rich cultural heritage and modern art.
Throughout the trip, the alumni gained knowledge and forged close bonds, sharing experiences and enjoying fulfilling moments together. The alumni also expressed their gratitude to their alma mater for the arrangements and looked forward to more opportunities like this.
The College especially thanked Harmonia College for facilitating the visit, and appreciated the warm hospitality, ensuring the success of our visits.
