The second talk of “New Asia Lectures on Contemporary China 2023/24” was held on 16 April 2024. It was our honour to have invited Mr. Wang Tong-sai Eddie, former President of HSBC China and former President of Minsheng Bank of China, to share his professional and comprehensive views on the topic “Foreign Banks in China: Opportunities and Challenges amid Fast Changes in the Financial Market”.

Mr. Wang shared his working experience of over 40 years in the banking industry and gave an account of the development of foreign banks in the financial market of Mainland China since the 1980s. From his unique perspective on management, Mr. Wang also analysed the opportunities and challenges encountered by foreign banks when developing their business in the Mainland. The lecture was hosted by Associate College Head Professor Terence Chong from the CUHK Department of Economics. We were also honoured to have College Trustee Dato’ Wong Kwing-keung, sponsor of the New Asia Lectures on Contemporary China, attending the talk.
