At the beginning of the Year of the Dragon, the Lunar New Year Party co-organised by New Asia College and New Asia College Alumni Association was held on 1 March 2024 at the Grand Ballroom of Hilton Garden Inn Hong Kong Mongkok. More than 130 alumni, friends of New Asia, and students gathered together to celebrate this festive occasion.

In their speeches, Chairperson of the College Board of Trustees Mr. Leung Ying-wai and College Head Professor Sun-On Chan highlighted several projects that the College accelerated and completed after the pandemic. They also took the opportunity to express their gratitude to all College friends and alumni for their support to the College. Ms. Wong Chui-hung, Chairperson of the College Alumni Association, reviewed the Association’s activities in the previous year and encouraged everyone to support the alumni events in the coming year. They all expressed their hopes to continue receiving support as the College celebrates its 75th anniversary in 2024. Following the toast ceremony, the party officially began.

This year, we invited the New Asia Chorus to perform at the event. The Chorus performed two songs, namely “Spring Breeze Kisses My Face” and “Welcoming Spring Flowers”, which were very fitting for the season. Since its reformation in 2015, the New Asia Chorus has been in operation for nine years. Under the leadership of the conductor, the standard of performance has been constantly improving. With many new members joining the Chorus last year, everyone had great confidence in their performance. There were more than 20 members of the Chorus performing that night, bringing a festive atmosphere to the banquet with melodious voices.

In addition to enjoying the performances, everyone enthusiastically participated in the lantern riddles before the banquet. Many guests got the right answers, and some even received prizes. Following was a lucky draw, with the winners going home with great prizes. The College and the College Alumni Association expressed their gratitude to generous individuals who provided sponsorships which enriched the range of prizes in the party. During the party, a cheque presentation ceremony was also held to acknowledge one of the dinner attendees who made a generous donation to the College last year.

The event was made possible with the collaborative efforts of the College Alumni Association, colleagues, and students. The College would like to express its heartfelt gratitude to them and extend thanks to alumni Mr. David Leung (01/Economics) and Ms. Whitney Lau (16/Journalism and Communication), as well as “New Asia Young Scholars Scheme” members Wang Yam-miu and Kong Han who served as emcees and created an engaging atmosphere for the entire audience. This Lunar New Year Party also marks the beginning of the College’s 75th anniversary celebration in the Year of the Dragon. We look forward to the College’s continued efforts in nurturing talent and contributing to society in the coming year.
