The Golden Jubilee Reunion for Class 1973 – “50 Years of Friendship in Farm Road” was successfully held on 9 December 2023, with nearly 70 alumni and their family members attending the event. Various activities were conducted during the afternoon, including a visit to the former site of the College (Kweilin Street Public Open Space) and to the Farm Road Campus (New Asia Middle School), as well as a tour at the Sha Tin Campus.

The Class of 1973 started organising the event as early as March last year, collaborating with the College and extending invitations to fellow classmates, which attracted overseas alumni to return to Hong Kong for the reunion. On the day of the event, more than ten alumni arrived at Kweilin Street Public Open Space in the afternoon to visit the former site of New Asia College. They then gathered with other alumni on the Farm Road Campus (New Asia Middle School). As the alumni spent their school years on this campus, this visit brought them great joy. In the circular lecture theatre, they sang the College Anthem together, reminiscing about the past days.

At 3pm, the alumni boarded a tour bus for a campus tour at the University. They first explored CUHK, with student helpers introducing the latest developments on campus. For many alumni, the Sha Tin Campus was completely unfamiliar. Everyone marveled at the beauty of the campus scenery. They also visited the newly completed fifth student hostel, “Mei Yun Tang”.

In the evening, nearly 70 alumni and their family members arrived at Yun Chi Hsien. Everyone was joyful and engaged in lively conversations about past anecdotes. It was our great pleasure to have invited former CUHK Vice-chancellor and former College Head Professor Ambrose King, former College Head Professor Henry Wong, former Associate College Head Professor Chu Ka-hou, and former Biology teacher Dr. Yung Kung-hing to attend the event, showcasing the precious bond between teachers and students.

The event began with the singing of the College Anthem, followed by a welcoming speech by the Chairman of the Reunion Organising Committee, Mr. Leung Ying-wai Charles, and speeches by College Head Professor Sun-On Chan and Professor Ambrose King. To celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Class of 1973, the College especially presented a cake to the alumni.

The alumni were very active throughout the event. Journalism and Communication alumni Ms. Cheng Lai-man Heidi, Mr. Leung Yip-cheong William, and Mr. Wu Kai-yiu Samuel served as the emcees. To enhance the atmosphere of the dinner, a small performance titled “Celebrating the Golden Jubilee with Melodies of Gold” was organised. The band, formed by Mr. Charles Leung, Ms. Heidi Cheng, Mr. Samuel Wu, Ms. Zina Yung, Ms. Ng Yin-chun and Mr. Ng Mou-yin, had undergone multiple rehearsals and performed several popular songs in both Chinese and English. Mr. Lau Fook-chu also performed the “Yang-style Tai Chi Sword”. The alumni truly showcased their diverse talents!

The reunion came to an end with laughter and joy. The alumni also generously contributed HK$120,000 to the “Class of 1973 Alumni Scholarship” established ten years ago. The event was successfully held, thanks to the strong support from the Class Coordinators. The College extends its heartfelt gratitude. We hope that the Class of 1973 will continue to support the College activities and care about the development of their alma mater.
