The “Lantau Island Shui Hau Eco-Cultural Guided Tour” co-organised by the College Culture Committee of New Asia College and the “Regenerating Shui Hau” Project of the CUHK School of Architecture, generously sponsored by the Tin Ka Ping Foundation, was successfully held on 29 March 2025. The event attracted nearly thirty students and staff members who immersed themselves in the nature and tradition of Shui Hau Village, appreciating the beauty of nature and traditional culture together.

Participants were divided into groups to engage in various activities and workshops. In the morning session on “farming demonstration and rice re-cultivation”, they acquired traditional farming techniques, and appreciated the diligence and wisdom of farmers. In the “traditional Shui Hau snack making workshop”, they made Shui Hau’s signature snack, Chinese fevervine herb cake, with their own hands and savoured the local flavours.

After enjoying a farm-to-table lunch made from fresh ingredients from local fields around noon, everyone explored the scenic views and history of Shui Hau, further understanding the unique charm of this land. The afternoon clam harvesting workshop was also full of fun, as participants used traditional tools to dig for clams, experiencing the joy of interacting with the nature while learning about conservation knowledge, and gained a rich harvest.

This event not only allowed students and teachers to escape from the hustle and bustle of the city, and relax through getting close to the nature, but also deepened their understanding of local ecology and culture through hands-on experience. They hoped to have more opportunities to promote eco-cultural education, enabling more people to realise the natural beauty and traditional charm of Hong Kong.
