Dean of General Education of the College, Professor Wicky Tse, was invited to participate in the General Education Seminar of the CUHK Office of University General Education on 24 September 2024. During the seminar, Professor Tse discussed the educational ideals and holistic education of the College, particularly the integration of elements and virtues of Chinese culture into the curriculum to honour the mission of our College founders. Professor Tse also introduced the mandatory credit-bearing service-learning courses to be offered in 2025/26 and beyond.

As elaborated by Professor Tse, as an essential part of the College General Education curriculum, the new service-learning courses will be caterogised into four areas: (1) Chinese Culture; (2) Diversity and Inclusion, Social Cohesion; (3) Sustainable Development; and (4) STEAM Education (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics). The College will collaborate with an array of community partners to provide service opportunities for our students. Through service delivery, lectures, sharing, discussions, group presentations, and individual reflective papers, students are expected to review the relationship between individuals and society, apply the knowledge and skills acquired in the classroom to community services, and develop concern and care for disadvantaged groups or social issues, with the ultimate goal of civic engagement.

Also taking part in the Seminar was Dr. Tong Wing-sze, College Secretary of Chung Chi College. The Seminar has provided an effective platform for exchange of views in relation to General Education between Colleges, so that a comprehensive and all-round programme can be provided to students to enhance their personal growth and development.
