Co-organised by New Asia College and Beijing Oriental Morality Institute since 2002, the Seminar on Chinese Moral Education has been promoting Chinese traditional virtues and moral education to the younger generations. Every summer, a group of primary and secondary school principals, teachers and education officials from various regions of the Mainland attend a series of seminars, discussion forums, visits and exchanges with local school principals and teachers during the seven-day themed programme in Hong Kong. Over 60 participants from the Primary School Group and the Secondary School Group are generously sponsored by the Tin Ka Ping Foundation and Mr. Chan Chi-sun Chinese Culture Fund respectively.

The 19th Seminar on Chinese Moral Education, themed “樂”, was successfully held from 3 to 9 July 2024, and was attended by some 60 participants from primary and secondary schools, or education research units of various Mainland regions including Beijing, Shanghai, Chongqing, Jiangxi, Hubei, Anhui, Heilongjiang, Inner Mongolia, Guangdong, etc.

During the programme, six talks were delivered by the following speakers: Professor Lau Chor-wah of New Asia Institute of Advance Chinese Studies, Professor Zheng Zemian of Department of Philosophy of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), Professor Charles Chan of The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Dr. Yu Kam-por of The University of Hong Kong, as well as Professor Peng Xiaoyuan and Ms. Wang Ying of Beijing Oriental Morality Institute.

In addition to lectures, visits to local schools and organisations, including the Tin Ka Ping Foundation, New Asia Middle School, Y.O.T. Tin Ka Ping Primary School and ICAC Headquarters, were also arranged for the participants who gained a deeper understanding of the moral education implementation in Hong Kong, and shared experiences with local counterparts. Teachers from local schools were invited to attend sharing sessions on 6 July to talk about moral education experience in their schools, which the Mainland participants found deeply inspiring.
