New Asia Life Monthly Magazine – Oct 2024

The main contents of this issue include—

College Activity
The 19th Seminar on Chinese Moral Education was held from 3 to 9 July with the theme “樂”. Professor Chan Wing-hoi (81/History) was invited to deliver the first lecture, discussing the desires and pleasures of Confucius and Yan Yuan in the Analects.

Anniversary Publications
To celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the College, the Publication Working Group will collate and publish the writings of Professor Ho Chien-tsung. To give readers a better understanding of Professor Ho, we have invited his past student Ms. Lo Sau-chun (69/Chinese Language and Literature) to write an article in memory of Professor Ho and share his influence on her.

Column “Heterogeneity in a Single Theme”
The theme of this issue is “Survivors” and is written by two alumni Ms. Wong Yuk-shan (18/Fine Arts) and Mr. Yang Sze-ngai Raymond (17/Government and Public Administration). The protagonist in Yuk-shan’s writing recalled a childhood memory triggered by a missing person notice which brought back memories of a childhood friend. Raymond, on the other hand, explored the concept of “survivors of suicide” through the suicide of the lead singer of Linkin Park and his friend, encouraging us to learn to recognise and express our true feelings.

Column “Journey Around the Globe”
In this issue, we have invited Ms. Tsang Chiu-shuen Marianna (08/Translation) to share with us her experiences of working and living in Japan. Over the past ten years in Japan, she has not only had the opportunity to interpret at numerous meetings and press conferences but has also crossed several significant milestones in her life.
