International Conference
“The Canonical Legacy: the 3rd International Conference on Classical Chinese Literature since the 1911 Revolution”, co-organised by the Department of Chinese Language and Literature, New Asia College, Research Programme for Lingnan Culture of Institute of Chinese Studies and Research Centre for Classical Chinese Poetics. Over 70 scholars from around the globe came together to share their experiences and insights on the study and creation of classical Chinese literature.
Editor’s Pick
In this issue of the Monthly Magazine, following the piece related to the opening of the exhibition ”The Story of the Leung Family – An Untold Hong Kong Legendary Story” in the last issue by Ms. Lee Kit-lan (68/Chinese Language and Literature), she extended the narrative of Ms. Leung Hung-kee’s connection with New Asia College and her contributions to society.
Column “Heterogeneity in a Single Theme”
The theme of this issue is “One night” and is written by two alumni Ms. Wong Yuk-shan (18/Fine Arts) and Ms. Ng Ching-yee (16/Chinese Language and Literature). Yuk-shan reflected on life without sunlight, yearning for brightness, and eventually embarked on a journey with others to strive for small bits of light. Ching-yee recounted the night when she lost her dad, evoking memories of her father and expressing the unpredictability of life.
Column “Journey Around the Globe”
In this issue, we have invited College alumnus Ms. Chan Man-ngor (06/English) to share the difficulties and challenges faced during her three years upon moving to the UK with her partner. By recalling the hardships of her parents’ generation, their spiritual connection gave her strength and courage to overcome these challenges.

As we approach the Year of the Snake, Dr. Hung Yeuk-chun (96/Chinese Language and Literature), Senior Lecturer of the CUHK Department of Chinese Language and Literature, was invited to introduce the zodiac sign “snake” and its interesting phenomena from various aspects of history and culture, folklore, as well as language and linguistics.
