[Academic Lecture]
The 34th Ch’ien Mu Lecture in History and Culture was held in early March with Professor Nicolas Standaert, Professor of Sinology, University of Leuven, Belgium as the guest speaker. Under the topic “The Art of In-Betweenness: Cultural Encounters between China and Europe in the Seventeenth and Eighteenth Centuries”, Professor Standaert shared with us the interactions between the two civilizations.

[College Activity]
Co-curated by Professor Lee Yun-woon, former Head of CUHK Department of Fine Art, and Professor Lai Ming-chiu, former Chairman of CUHK Department of History, the “Chinese Calligraphy Exhibition of University Friends” was held at the Hui Gallery of the College on 13-24 March, well-received by students and guests from different universities. 

[Column “Heterogeneity in a Single Theme”]
The theme of this issue is “Fate”, and is written by two alumni Mr. Chan Pak-ka (07/Chinese Language and Literature) and Ms. Cheung Ying Jasmine (17/Chinese Medicine). Pak-ka recorded his visit to the Ming Tombs, lamenting the involuntary nature of human beings and the cruelty of fate, while Jasmine wrote about the fertility anxiety suffered by her patients and shared her thoughts about fate.

[Column “Journey Around the Globe”]
Mr. Jonathan Lee (19/Chinese Language and Literature) shared with us his experience as a PhD student in Linguistics at the University of Pennsylvania. This journey not only helped him rediscover himself but also taught him invaluable lessons about life.
