“Weathering Storms, Forging Ahead” Student Support Scheme

A Letter from the Head of College (April 2026)

Please Support the “Weathering Storms, Forging Ahead” Mental Health Support Scheme

Dear New Asians,

As I stroll through our campus, my thoughts often wander back to the early years of our predecessors at Kweilin Street in Sham Shui Po. In those days, while material resources were extremely scarce, the conviction held by both teachers and students remained steadfast. Today, although the living environment for our youth has become more prosperous, their inner lives are often caught in the struggle of silent storms.

Embracing Hardship with Compassion, Weathering the Storm Together

From increasingly heavy academic burdens to various unpredictable life adversities, the challenges faced by students today are more subtle and complex than those of our generation. As the New Asia Anthem goes: “In adversity and perils I forge ahead, in poverty and want I remain passionate.” Seeing our younger brothers and sisters struggling to hold their ground amidst the wind and rain brings me deep sorrow. In their most vulnerable moments, can we be the ones to hold an umbrella for them in time?

In recent years, the College has gradually strengthened its emotional support services, striving to provide companionship at critical moments. However, in the face of rising demand, our existing resources are becoming increasingly strained. It is a profound regret that many initiatives that could truly benefit our students remain unimplemented due to budget constraints.

I do not wish to see any New Asian feel isolated and helpless when facing a mental impasse.

Shouldering the Burden Together, Safeguarding Growth

To this end, the College is fully committed to launching the “Weathering Storms, Forging Ahead” Mental Health Support Scheme, supported by the newly established “New Asia Holistic Wellness Fund.” We regard this as our core mission this year, as we strive to walk side-by-side with our students through the rain. The program focuses on mental health through three core pillars:

  1. 【Spiritual Oasis】: Establishing tranquil de-stressing corners on campus.
  2. 【Early Watch】: Deepening support mechanisms between teachers and students.
  3. 【Self-Empowerment】: Enhancing students’ psychological resilience and well-being.

I sincerely invite you to [Read below] to learn more about the specific details of the plan.

While safeguarding our students’ mental well-being, the College remains committed to promoting holistic development: a steady mind is the foundation for growth, while diverse learning opportunities are the wings that help students achieve their dreams. Beyond caring for their inner lives, scholarships and exchange program subsidies enable our students to broaden their horizons, ensuring they do not miss precious opportunities to explore the world due to financial constraints, and allowing them to flourish in various fields.

Your Support: A Timely Hand in a Moment of Need

We hope that the New Asia campus is not just a place for academic pursuit, but their warmest harbour. I am deeply grateful that whenever New Asia faces a challenge, our community from all corners of the world pours in their love and care for their alma mater. To safeguard the mental health and growth of our students, I invite you to walk with me and become part of this warm, supportive force.

Wishing you all good health and continued prosperity.

Student Testimonials

Supporting the mental growth of our students is a marathon with no finish line. As the Head of College shared in his letter, New Asia has been strengthening its emotional support to students in recent years, striving to walk with them at critical moments.

The following anonymous testimonials stand as witnesses to the College’s silent but dedicated efforts. These stories reinforce our belief that timely companionship can truly transform a person’s life trajectory.

Student A:

Reclaiming Life: From Isolation to Renewal

“For the first time, I was able to speak openly about the heavy burdens in my heart. That feeling of no longer being alone—of finally having someone willing to understand me—was like rainfall after a long drought; it was the comfort I had craved for so long.”

During that time, the overlap of mental health struggles and my family’s debt made every breath feel heavy, and living itself felt like a burden. Out of shame and the fear of being looked down upon, I hid my pain deep within until I finally found the courage to walk into the College Office. For the first time, I was able to speak openly about the heavy burdens in my heart. That feeling of no longer being alone—of finally having someone willing to understand me—was like rainfall after a long drought; it was the comfort I had craved for so long.

That day was a turning point for me. The College extended a helping hand just in time—providing immediate emotional support and subsidies for professional psychological treatment, allowing me to find strength at a moment when I was on the verge of collapsing. The care I received from the College was a “reclaiming” of my life, allowing me to start anew. The dedication of the College staff has deeply inspired me, and I hope to help other struggling students in the future so they, too, may no longer feel alone.

Student B:

A Reliable Anchor Amidst Adversity

“This holistic protection from the College became my spiritual anchor during the lowest point of my life.”

The fire at Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po was a devastating blow; the feelings of helplessness and despair as I watched the raging flames still haunt me today. Although I was supporting myself through tutoring and working as a research assistant, I lacked the extra resources to help my family through the crisis, leaving me filled with anxiety.

Fortunately, the College stepped in immediately. The care from the teachers was truly heartwarming: the Dean of Students and staff coordinated support right away, and hostel tutor prepared essential supplies so that I had a place to stay on the very night of the fire. The emergency subsidy also eased my family’s immediate financial burden. Most importantly, the regular conversations with the Hall Warden gave me a vital outlet to be heard and cared for during those difficult days. Even when I was accidentally injured, the Warden personally drove me to the hospital despite his busy schedule. This holistic protection provided me with a spiritual anchor during the lowest point of my life. I will forever cherish this warmth and friendship, and I hope to one day extend a helping hand to those in need, just as the College did for me.

Student C:

Resilience Through Support: Extending Comfort to the Family

“This support did more than just give us a moment to breathe in the midst of hardship; more importantly, it brought spiritual comfort to me and my family.”

I am deeply grateful to the College for reaching out when my home was burglarized and my entire family was devastated. At the time, my mother insisted on going to work despite having a fever, yet our hard-earned savings were lost in an instant, and my sister’s dream of studying abroad was shattered. I felt utterly helpless and anxious due to my academic struggles and failure to secure a scholarship.

Thankfully, the College promptly referred me to a counselor to help me deal with the hidden emotional distress caused by the incident. The counselor helped me navigate my situation from a broader perspective, enabling me to face challenges more calmly. Subsequently, the College provided financial aid, which timely eased our family’s predicament. This support did more than just give us a moment to breathe in the midst of hardship; more importantly, it brought spiritual comfort to me and my family.

Weathering Storms, Forging Ahead

We cannot bear to see any New Asian feel isolated and helpless when facing a mental impasse.

To this end, the College has made the “Weathering Storms, Forging Ahead Together” Support Scheme its core mission this year. No matter how rugged the road ahead, we are committed to standing with our students as a warm and solid pillar of support. Your every contribution will be transformed into tangible actions to protect young minds, focusing on the following three directions:

1. 【Spiritual Oasis】: Building Stress-Relief Sanctuaries on Campus

Facing heavy academic loads, internships, and various activities, many students lack a space where they can truly slow down and settle their minds. We wish to provide a sanctuary where weary students can periodically reset their pace.

Through your support, the College will establish healing spaces for relaxation and continue to host diverse wellness activities, such as mindfulness practice, horticultural therapy workshops, and forest bathing. We aim to create a spiritual oasis where students can regain inner peace and accumulate the courage to move forward again.

2.【Early Watch】: Deepening Teacher-Student Support Networks

Sometimes, a troubled soul may not actively call for help, but a caring look or a simple greeting can touch the heart. To integrate these connections into student life, the College continues to promote the “Get-together Luncheon” program and various informal exchange activities. These initiatives allow teachers and students to transcend the boundaries of the classroom and converse naturally over a meal.

We also plan to allocate more resources to Student Hall Associations and Non-residential Hall Association to organize basketball games, film screenings, and hobby classes. By staying closer to the students’ world, our teachers can better sense their silent struggles and extend a helping hand long before they need to ask for it.

3. 【Self-Empowerment】: Enhancing Psychological Resilience

Mental health should not just be about passive protection, but proactive empowerment. We plan to launch more workshops and seminars on mental health education to guide students in self-awareness and self-care when stress first appears. Simultaneously, we hope to build a more open and positive culture on campus, helping students understand that “seeking help is itself a form of courage”.

Most importantly, when a student takes that first step to seek help, we want to ensure they receive the exact support they need. While the University provides basic counselling, there is still a shortage of specialized services like family therapy and art therapy. Furthermore, some students require external psychiatric consultations or self-funded medication; however, the high costs involved can be a significant barrier for those in financial difficulty.

Therefore, we intend to invest more resources to directly subsidize professional external counselling, psychotherapy, and psychiatric fees. We want to ensure that every New Asian receives timely medical care and never misses the opportunity for recovery due to financial pressure.

Every donation is a source of strength, ensuring our youth never face the storm alone.

Every contribution is a warm encouragement, empowering New Asia students to forge ahead with resilience.

In adversity and perils I forge ahead, in poverty and want I remain passionate

The educational mission of New Asia College is to enable our students to shape a virtuous character amidst diverse challenges. While promoting mental health support, we remain steadfast in our commitment to creating a culturally enriched learning environment.

Beyond mental health support, diverse learning opportunities also help students achieve their aspirations. We sincerely invite you to support the following developmental areas to create more life-changing opportunities for New Asia students:

  • Establishing Scholarships and Bursaries: Rewarding Excellence, Supporting the Needy
We welcome the establishment of new named scholarships and bursaries. In addition to academic achievement, scholarships can also focus on rewarding students who excel in fields such as sports, social service, or overseas exchange. For students facing difficult economic circumstances—or even struggling to sustain basic academic expenses—bursaries and emergency aid are the most vital “timely rain” on their educational journey.

Named Scholarship/Bursary: Established with a donation of HK$100,000.
Endowed Named Scholarship/Bursary: Established with a donation of HK$250,000.
Click here to read the Introduction and Establishment Procedures for New Asia College Scholarships / Bursaries.

  • Subsidizing Overseas and Mainland Exchange Programs: Broadening Horizons, Connecting with the World
The College actively promotes student participation in exchange programs with overseas or domestic universities. To alleviate the financial burden on students, the College provides exchange subsidies through the “New Asia Student Enrichment Fund”. Your generous donation will be transformed into precious resources for our younger brothers and sisters to explore the world, ensuring they do not miss the opportunity to expand their global vision due to financial constraints.

With your generous support, we will be able to launch more innovative projects for student well-being and cultural cultivation, contributing further to social welfare. For over seventy years, because of your companionship, the New Asia spirit has continued to flourish.
