The Yale-China Association held a two-week orientation programme at the New Asia Campus from mid to late August 2025, welcoming two Yale graduates as the new cohort of Yale-China teaching fellows. This programme has a 116-year long history, starting in Changsha in 1909 and moving to Hong Kong in 1956, where it continues to this day. In recent decades, Yale-China fellows have taught two College General Education courses on the United States each academic year, which have been very well-received among New Asia students. Through interactions, both inside and outside the classroom, New Asia students and Yale-China fellows have enhanced their cross-cultural knowledge and understanding of Hong Kong, China and the United States.

This year’s orientation programme included a tour of the CUHK campus, an exploration of Cheung Chau, group dinners, lectures by instructors, role-play exercises and other training workshops. On 18 August 2025, the College arranged the first meeting between the Yale-China teaching fellows and College staff. In addition to introducing College history and its recent developments, the session also provided an opportunity for both sides to learn more about one another. On 29 August, a welcome luncheon was held at Yun Chi Hsien, where colleagues gather in a relaxed atmosphere, enjoying Chinese cuisine while sharing stories about work and life. These memorable moments strengthened the bonds between the Yale-China fellows and College staff, laying a solid foundation for collaboration and exchange in the new academic year.
