On 14 January 2025, the College organised the New Asia Lectures on Contemporary China 2025/26, moderated by Professor Chong Tai-leung Terence, Associate Head of the College and Associate Professor of the CUHK Department of Economics. We were honoured to have invited Professor Cai Fang, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, to deliver a lecture titled “Summarise the 14th Five-Year Plan and Look Ahead to the 15th Five-Year Plan”.

Professor Cai also serves as President of the China Association of Labour Economics, Vice President of the World Association for China Studies, and a member of the World Bank High-Level Advisory Council on Jobs. In his lecture, he explained, from the perspective of an economist, why Chinese Mainland’s Five-Year Plans deserved close attention, analysed the significance of implementing the goals of the 14th Five-Year Plan, and examined the challenges facing Chinese Mainland’s long-term economic development. Furthermore, Professor Cai offered forward-looking insights on the 15th Five-Year Plan, emphasising that future strategies should place a greater focus on “investing in people”. The lecture met with enthusiastic response and completed successfully.
