The New Asia Chinese Music Society (NACMS) was established in 1960 and is one of the student societies with the longest history in our College and CUHK. Over the years, it has been promoting the development of Chinese music and inheritance of Chinese culture on campus. In the past few years, NACMS’s operations and performances have been severely restricted due to the ravages of COVID-19. Starting from the 2023/24 academic year, with assistance of the College, the NACMS co-organised a series of lunchtime concerts with the College, hoping that the public can not only appreciate Chinese music, but can also experience the joy of Chinese music through interactive activities, for promoting the beauty of Chinese music among CUHK members.
Thanks to the dedicated efforts of NACMS members and generous support of the Tin Ka Ping Foundation, two “JOIN to JOY” Lunchtime Music Concerts were successfully held on 20 December 2023 and 21 March 2024 respectively at the Mei Yun Tang. At the two concerts, NACMS members performed various genres of music, including classical Chinese music, Cantonese music and music from the Western Regions, demonstrating the elegance, charm and diversity of Chinese music. The one-hour concerts passed by unknowingly, and the audience responded enthusiastically. After the concerts, they continued to chat with the musicians, showing a keen interest in Chinese music. The NACMS eagerly looks forward to seeing our teachers, students and alumni at the lunchtime concerts in the next academic year.
