The 17^th Annual Postgraduate Student Forum of the CUHK Department of Anthropology was held from 30 to 31 January 2026 in a mixed mode under the theme “Becoming Human, Beyond Human”. The Forum brought together around 500 postgraduate students and early-career researchers for two days of presentations, discussion and exchanges.

The Forum encouraged participants to reflect on the boundaries of the human and to examine relationships among humans, technology, media, environments and other-than-human worlds. This breadth was reflected in the programme which included papers on posthumanism, visual culture, media governance, ethnographic fieldwork and related contemporary issues, etc.

A major highlight of the Forum was the keynote lecture by Sophie Chao on the second day. Her talk attracted more than 200 audience members, while the multispecies workshop held afterwards was attended by around 40 participants. The workshop created a valuable setting for students to discuss thesis writing, research development and future academic pathways in a more interactive format.

Overall, the Forum demonstrated the intellectual energy of Anthropology postgraduates at CUHK and the values of student-led academic exchanges.
